Charles Young

I have been making silver and gold jewelry for several decades.

Many of my pieces consist of agates, opals or other stones set in rings and pendants. Many of my pieces are made from 95 percent silver alloy which is purer, softer and tarnishes less than sterling.

Recently, I have been working with lower cost metals such as copper, pewter and recycled silver plate flatware. I have been making black and white photographs since elementary school, and have recently been printing black and white photos with the cyanotype process (like old “blueprint” engineering drawings). My recent drawings are made primarily with graphite sticks or charcoal, and my paintings are watercolors. I am strongly influenced by Asian calligraphy and brush painting. I have lived in the Copper Country since 1980; in 2006 I retired from the faculty at MichiganTechnological University.
