I am a mixed media artist who enjoys figuring out how to create in watercolor, stained glass, woodblock prints, mosaics & using found objects for wind chimes

When I was attending Houghton High I took an art class where the teacher told me I could never be an artist. After graduating with a BS degree I got a job on the Mississippi State University (MSU) campus as an electron microscopist which included darkroom experience. When my husband Duane planned for a sabbatical in Kenya I decided to take a B&W photography class which I loved. A couple of my photos made it into regional art shows. When we returned from Africa I continued taking art classes and found out I could be an artist at age 40!

Over the years I have promoted art, collected it & visited galleries & art museums all over the world. I was on a committee to help form the Starkville Area Art Council. The first Cotton District Art Festival covered 2 blocks downtown. The last one before Covid had 40,000 attendees.

I am a mixed media artist who enjoys figuring out how to create in watercolor, stained glass, woodblock prints, mosaics & using found objects for wind chimes, etc. I am especially inspired by my professor, Brent Funderburk, who uses brilliant watercolor paint & by Walter Anderson who was classically trained & thought art should be available to anyone. One time while volunteering at the CCAA gallery a patron asked me which medium was my favorite. I laughed & said they all are!
