At the age of 13 I began woodcarving lessons from a retired master carver at the YMCA. He had been recruited from Sweden to work in the Grand Rapids MI furniture industry. The lessons continued until high school graduation. Years later after retiring from the workforce I resumed woodcarving. I enjoy chip carving, an ancient technique for decorating wood objects.
